Apicoectomy

Take this opportunity to preserve your teeth

Modern dentistry is primarily concerned with preserving the natural teeth as long as possible. If the root of a tooth is inflamed, the dentist will carry out root therapy. But sometimes that proves insufficient to calm the tooth, and the root tip becomes inflamed.

In such cases your dentist will refer you to our practice for an apicoectomy. In this procedure, we expose the gums and jaw to reach the tooth root. We then remove several millimetres of root and the surrounding affected tissue and seal the end of the root with a tiny filling.

Once the inflammation has fully healed, the tooth can be maintained for many years to come. Sometimes, however, an apicoectomy is not advisable. In such cases, we recommend extraction of the tooth.
